We’ve just returned from the Midsummer’s party, and I’m tired. (That odd kind of tired when all you’ve been doing is relaxing and partying…that “vacation” tired.) I don’t have much brain power, so I’m going to show some things I find interesting. Hope you’ll enjoy these:
Sign in the “underground” mall in Helsingfors. Finnish is on the top, Swedish on the bottom. In the middle, you’ll see Mikaelsgatan, or Michael’s street.
(Also cute, because as soon as we landed in Finland, Michael became Mikael, pronounced Mee-kyle.)
The menu from the Pizza Hut in Helsingfors. The menu is in Finnish.
The Finnish language wins the prize for the longest words. They also win for the most doubles in one word. My favorite so far is syyttää, which means accuse. I’ll have to find some other good ones.
This is how you place your silverware if you don’t want your place cleaned or you’re still eating.
When you set your knife and fork side-by-side, that means you are done. Had to learn this one quickly!
The super-clean and super-quiet tram in Helsingfors. You can almost make out the card reader that is used to scan your bus pass.
