Road Trip – Last Day
The second day of our road trip found us all the way from Ruka, to the Russian-Finnish border, to the amethyst mine, and ending in Rovaniemi.  Once we were in Rovaniemi, we were able to walk around a bit, which was nice.  Walking was great to get rid of our “car [...]

Road Trip – Day Two
After waking up a bit late (thank goodness) we had a wonderful breakfast of grönsaker, sill, and knäckebröd.  When we got back into the car, our first stop was going to be a bit further north-east to the Russian-Finnish border at Salla.  On our way there, we spotted even more reindeer [...]

Yes, I know that I’ve already written about the first leg of our trip once.  Yikes.  I was so sleepy that I completely forgot what I’d already finished.  Oh well.  Here it goes again!
The first leg of our road trip started after Michael’s Fammo’s 94th birthday party.  The party was very nice with everyone in [...]

Leaving Jakobstad!

Yes, we’re on our way back to Helsingfors.  We’ll be in Helsingfors until about 13.00, when we’ll be waiting for our plane to Copenhagen.
But now….off again to pack so we’re not late for our train.

…At least I think this is the third installment.  Oh well, that’s what the little “edit” button is for.  Here we go again, still due to a lack of brainpower…

My conscience got the better of me.  Need to say a few more things:
Glad födelsedag to Ulf!  Happy Happy Birthday!  Happy belated birthday to Ben!  Also to Lauren and Caitlyn, who’ve had birthdays while we were away.   Thank you to my Mom and the rest of my family and friends for keeping in touch!  [...]

Oh, I’m tired.  We just finished playing another round of Pidro (a card came originating from near Jakobstad), and I’m ready for bed.  Only have enough brain power to show a few more cool/interesting/wonderful things from Finland:
This is the ear tag from the reindeer we ate on Monday night.  Yummy!
Here Michael and I are playing [...]

There’s not much I can say about Midsummer’s other than it is WONDERFUL.  A nice, festive, happy party that goes on early into the morning.  (Although Michael and I could only stay awake until about 12:30 a.m.)  Michael’s aunt & uncle’s friends are just like they are:  extremely kind, helpful, and a ton of [...]

Soooo…where did I leave off?  Oh yes, we’d just gotten onto the train to Jakobstad.  When we got on, I immediately thought of Amtrak, as that’s the only train line I’ve been on.  But after all of four minutes on the train, I found differences.  First, the Finnish trains leave on time.  EXACTLY on [...]

We’ve just returned from the Midsummer’s party, and I’m tired.  (That odd kind of tired when all you’ve been doing is relaxing and partying…that “vacation” tired.)  I don’t have much brain power, so I’m going to show some things I find interesting.  Hope you’ll enjoy these:

Sign in the “underground” mall in Helsingfors.  Finnish [...]
